Dr. Fred Gallo's latest book about treating trauma and PTSD will please both lay readers and professionals. The information flows effortlessly from chapter to chapter, starting with definitions of trauma, the ways that trauma has been treated before the advent of Energy Psychology, and an overview of alternative trauma treatments like EMDR, TIR and V/KD.
Dr. Gallo explains how and why Energy Tapping works, clarifying the science of energy and brain chemistry in a way that is scientific yet understandable without talking down to the reader. He also ingeniously provides all the answers to challenges that skeptical newcomers might ask. The Research Appendix is an important addition that will help doubters learn that these techniques are being studied by reputable scientists.

The main body of the book contains a wonderful variety of approaches that complement Energy Tapping. Readers will choose from a variety of methods, since not all systems work for all people. These procedures, as well as the tapping protocols for simple and complex trauma are well illustrated with clear diagrams and easy to follow instructions.
The chapter called "Troubleshooting" explains what to do when tapping doesn't seem to work. Readers will find out what neurological disorganization and psychological reversal are and how to correct these problems. This section is chock full of techniques and suggestions. The information here is essential to know in order to produce successful results.

This is truly a user-friendly book with the emphasis on "friendly." The author becomes a real person that readers can trust when he reveals his own vulnerability by including personal stories from his own life and how he used energy techniques to heal himself in addition to valuable case histories. The book ends on a positive note in which readers are given protocols for reconnecting to and empowering their lives. This is the kind of book that should be kept at hand as a ready reference.

Five Simple Steps to Emotional Healing

In this book, Fred Gallo, who coined the term Energy Psychology or EP to describe a remarkable new generation of rapid and effective treatments for psychological and physical problems, provides an erudite summary of EP treatments for trauma. Unresolved emotional trauma has been shown to correlate highly with every major disease, including cancer, heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and depression. Releasing that trauma is key to healing. With vast experience as a clinical psychologist, as well as an astute grasp of the physiological and pharmacological mechanisms at work in emotional states, Gallo begins by painting a detailed and accurate depiction of trauma in lay language. He summarizes the conventional and alternative treatments for emotional stress, especially posttraumatic stress disorder or PTSD, and reviews the strengths and limitations of each. He then describes several techniques drawn from EP which he has found to be effective. After reviewing all scientific studies and literature on EP for my own book, The Genie in Your Genes: Epigenetic Medicine and the New Biology of Intention, I was impressed to find that Gallo has taken even the best existing EP methods a step further. Yet as he thinks through the issues and applies them with his clients, that next step turns out to be even simpler than the older methods. With a generation of veterans returning from Iraq, America is desperately in need of an effective method of treating PTSD. And even people who have never seen combat often demonstrate a large collection of unresolved emotional traumas, which can live on to compromise their health and happiness. I know of no better way to treat either kind of situation than with this brilliant new synthesis from the master of Energy Psychology.
